What Our Founder Recommends: First Trimester Essentials

What Our Founder Recommends: First Trimester Essentials

Tried, Tested and Worn by Lucy Watson

Pregnancy has a way of changing what matters.

In the first trimester, it’s often less about styling outfits or dressing for plans and more about finding pieces that feel easy, comfortable and dependable when your body is already doing so much.

For our founder Lucy, the first few months of pregnancy brought a new perspective. After creating RENUE to prioritise comfort, softness and support for women at every stage of life, she found herself reaching for those same values more than ever.

We sat down with Lucy to ask what she actually wore on repeat during the first trimester.

Q: What was the biggest shift in how you dressed during the first trimester?

Lucy:
Honestly, comfort became everything. I was really sick for the first three months, so I didn’t want to be thinking about what to wear. I just wanted reliable pieces that felt soft, supportive and easy to throw on.

When you’re already feeling tired or nauseous, the last thing you want is anything digging in, feeling tight or needing constant adjusting.

Q: What RENUE pieces did you reach for the most?

The Ribbed Crop Top Bralette

Lucy:
This was one of my favourites because it feels supportive, but so soft and light that you barely notice you’re wearing it.

Your body can feel more sensitive in early pregnancy, especially your chest, so anything restrictive was a no for me. The crop top bralette gave me enough support without wires or pressure, and it just felt easy.

Why I loved it for my first trimester:

  • Soft, flexible support
  • No wires or digging in
  • Comfortable for changing breast size
  • Easy to wear all day at home or out

Boyfriend Shorts

Lucy:
I lived in these. I wanted pieces that sat comfortably over my stomach without feeling tight.

Even before you have a visible bump, there can be bloating and sensitivity, so waistbands suddenly matter a lot more than you realise. These felt soft, easy, flattering and I could wear them around the house or even to bed at night as they're that comfy.

Why I loved it for my first trimester:

  • Soft waistband that sits comfortably above the stomach
  • No digging or pressure
  • Breathable fabric for all-day wear
  • Easy to style at home or on the go

The CloudAir™ Moulded Cup Bra

Lucy:
Some days I wanted a little more shape under clothing, but still without sacrificing comfort.

The Moulded Cup Bra was great for that. It’s smooth, supportive and feels really lightweight. You get shape without heaviness, which was exactly what I wanted.

Why I loved it for my first trimester:

  • Light shaping with soft support
  • Smooth under clothing
  • Breathable CloudAir™ fabric
  • Comfortable enough for everyday wear

The Every Day Thong

Lucy:
This was another one I reached for constantly in the first trimester. It's one of those pieces that is so incredibly soft, lightweight, and sits so smoothly that you forget you’re even wearing it. That was really important for me, especially on days when I already felt uncomfortable or nauseous.

It also has antimicrobial properties, which made it feel that bit fresher and more practical for everyday wear especially when comfort and ease are the priority over everything else.

Why I loved it for my first trimester:

  • Feels like you’re wearing nothing at all
  • Antimicrobial properties for all-day freshness
  • Perfect for sensitive or changing bodies

Q: What mattered most to you during this stage?

Lucy:
Honestly, ease. When you don’t feel like yourself, having a few pieces you know will feel good makes such a difference.

I didn’t want to overthink getting dressed. I just wanted underwear and loungewear that worked with my body and made me feel comfortable.
